Fellowship of $5,000 to a Franklin County, Ohio, playwright for the commission of an original, full-length musical or play that has not been produced to date. Funding is intended to recognize talented theater artists and to support new works in the central Ohio community. Works submitted should have been created within the last three years. Collaborative works may be submitted, but only one award is possible.

The panel will consider the following criteria for awards:
- Originality
- Likelihood of future productions
- Clarity of voice
- General interest in the subject matter.

The award includes a staged reading by CATCO in June 2019. No further publication is guaranteed but the selected score may be reviewed for possible publication.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible an applicant must be a Franklin County resident for at least one year.

Works submitted must have been created within the last three years. Musicals are now eligible.

The award will be recommended by a panel of experts in the field. Their decisions will be based solely on the artistic excellence of the work submitted for review. Applicants are encouraged to submit works that clearly convey the techniques and concepts employed. Gender, race, age, financial need, education, professional affiliations, previous recognition, and occupation are NOT considerations for funding.

Undergraduate students enrolled in a degree- or certificate-granting program at the time of application or during the grant award period are not eligible to apply. In addition, adaptations of other written work will not be considered.

Award recipients should intend to remain in residence for the grant award period.

Pre-Application Information:

Application deadline: December 30, 2018, 5:00 PM.

No late submissions will be accepted. Applicants will receive an email confirming receipt of their application and next steps. Panelists will be provided secure remote access to jury the applications down to the finalists. A closed panel will facilitate the selection of the recipient.

Recipient will be announced March 18, 2019.

Collaborative works may be submitted, but only one award is possible. Collaborating playwrights must submit a joint cover letter and clearly indicate the names of the collaborative writers.
