Awards to Maryland individuals and businesses for significant contributions to the arts in Howard County. Awards will be given in four categories: individual artists, arts educators, arts support from businesses (large or small) and individuals, and a legacy award for lifetime achievements.

More details on the awards categories are as follows:
- Outstanding Artist: presented to a person who has contributed a high level of talent and vision to the artistic life of the community.
- Outstanding Arts Educator: presented to a person who has made an outstanding contribution to arts education in Howard County.
- Outstanding Business or Community Supporter: presented to a business (large or small) or individual that demonstrates a record of commitment to the arts in Howard County.
- Legacy in the Arts Award: recognizes an individual or group for lifetime achievements in the arts in Howard County and is presented at the discretion of the Howie Committee.

Winners receive two complimentary tickets to the gala event.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Outstanding Artist and Outstanding Educator Awards can be awarded to any individual who has made a significant contribution to the arts in Howard County.

The Outstanding Business or Community Supporter of the Arts Award can be awarded to a business, organization, or individual who has made meaningful contributions in support of the arts. In this award category, an individual nominee will most likely be someone who does not “fit” into the Artist or Arts Educator categories, such as a patron, administrator, or arts advocate.

The Legacy in the Arts Award recognizes an individual or group.

Previous winners, current members of the Howard County Arts Council Board of Directors, and Howie Committee members are not eligible.

Pre-Application Information:

The deadline to submit nominations for the 2017 Howie Awards is October 30, 2017.

Winners will be notified in writing no later than January 15, 2018.

The 2017 Howie Awards will be presented at the Celebration of the Arts in Howard County gala on March 24, 2018.
