Grants to Minnesota and Wisconsin nonprofit organizations to meet the needs of communities within the funding source’s service area. Program areas include economic development, community service, education and youth, emergency energy assistance, environment, and disaster relief. Please note that all funds must be used locally, with the exception of unusual disasters.

Funds for Operation Round Up are voluntarily donated by East Central Energy members. Operation Round Up contributions will be used primarily in the local area served by the cooperative for charitable and educational purposes.

ECE's main office and operations center are located in Braham, MN, with service and/or operations centers in Milaca, MN, Finlayson, MN, Superior, WI, and Wahkon, MN. The ECE service area extends from northwestern Wisconsin on the east to the Mississippi River on the west. It includes parts of Douglas, Washburn and Burnett Counties in Wisconsin and parts of Aitkin, Carlton, Morrison, Mille Lacs, Sherburne, Kanabec, Isanti, Pine, Chisago, Washington, and Benton Counties in Minnesota.

The following factors will be considered in the evaluation of all funding requests:
a. Potential benefit to area residents and the entire community.
b. Level of community support for the program or project.
c. Administrative capability of the organization to deliver quality service or program.
d. Results that are predictable and can be evaluated.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Contributions will generally be made to nonprofit, civic, or community-based organizations that have been granted tax-exempt status underIRS Code Section 501(c).

Contributions will generally not be made for:
a. Lobbying, political and religious organizations or highly sensitive/controversial events.
b. Fraternal and labor organizations.
c. Fundraising dinners, raffles and other events.
d. Individuals.
e. Capital fund campaigns.
f. National fund drives.
g. Advertising.
h. Ongoing operational expenses.
i. Grants will not normally exceed $10,000 for any one group, organization or charity.

Pre-Application Information:

Local charitable organizations that want to apply for an ORU grant can call 1-800-254-7944 ext. 8046 to request an application form.

The Operation Round Up Trust Board meets quarterly to review applications and award grants. Applications are due by 4:00 PM on the deadlines listed below for consideration at the next meeting.

2018 Meeting Dates:
-January 22, 2018: Applications due by December 18, 2017
-April 23, 2018: Applications due by March 19, 2018
-July 23, 2018: Applications due by June 18, 2018
-October 22, 2018: Applications due by September 17, 2018
