Grants to Washington nonprofit organizations for programs and projects to improve the quality of life for Seattle and Puget Sound area residents. Funding is intended for education, assisting those in financial need, religious respect and tolerance, and strengthening the Jewish community.

Grant requests for specific programs, general operating support, start-up funding, and prizes or awards are encouraged.

The Foundation's mission is to:

- Improve the capacity of and cooperation among Jewish congregations in the City of Seattle, Washington.
- Support interfaith tolerance and understanding.
- Provide scholarship assistance, primarily to the University of Washington and Seattle University.
- Support and promote quality educational, human services, and health care programming for economically disadvantaged individuals and families.

Term of Contract:

Grants from the Shemanski Trust are one year in duration.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Proposals will be considered from eligible, tax-exempt organizations in certain 501(c)(3) subsections as defined by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Funding will not be considered for projects by individuals or for political purposes. Tickets for dinners or other fundraising events, or requests for sponsorship of courtesy advertising will also be considered ineligible.

Pre-Application Information:

Proposal due: September 15

Please submit online applications by 11:59 p.m. on the day of the foundation’s deadline date. If the deadline falls on a weekend or a federally recognized holiday applications are due on the next business day by 11:59 p.m.

In 2019, September 15 falls on a Sunday, so the effective application date will be September 16 at 11:59 PM.

Decision Date: November 30. Applicants will be notified of committee’s grant decisions by mail.
