Grants of up to $10,000 to Minnesota nonprofit arts organizations in eligible regions for projects designed to strengthen operations and management. Funding is intended for projects that have the potential for significant or long-term impact. Grants are available to support organizations in the seven-county metro area that includes Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott, and Washington Counties. The intent of the program is to challenge the organization, infuse new thinking, or develop new systems to further the group’s growth and development.

Grants may be used to conduct an assessment or create/implement a plan in areas such as: board governance, resource development, financial planning/management, ADA access, communications/public relations, strategic planning, information systems, volunteer management, audience development and marketing, racial equity work plans, or community needs. This is not a complete list of eligible projects.

The Organizational Development program provides grants of up to $10,000.

Term of Contract:

The earliest grant expenditure date is May 27, 2020. The latest project end date is June 30, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Groups applying for Organizational Development support must be arts nonprofits or fiscally-sponsored arts groups with at least 2 years of programming history.

Eligibility:
- This program funds nonprofit arts organizations. 501(c)3 nonprofits must be incorporated and active as a nonprofit in the state of Minnesota to be eligible for this program.
- Applicant groups must be located and have at least a two-year history of programs or services in the 7-county metropolitan region.
- The applicant group’s annualized operating expenses must be less than $400,000.
- For-profit entities, schools, school support organizations, and community education units are not eligible to apply for this program, and this program does not fund the purchase of land or buildings, debt reduction, cash reserves, endowments, fundraising events, political lobbying or discriminatory activities.

Applicant groups cannot be:
- Organizations registered with the MN Secretary of State as a profit-making Minnesota business (e.g. Business Corporation, Limited Liability Partnership, MN Public Benefit Corporations, etc.).
- Individual artists.
- Public, private, alternative, charter, or home schools (this includes school support organizations such as PTAs, PTOs, school foundations, etc.).
- Community education units may not apply for management related grants for their arts programs. However, a community education unit may serve as a fiscal sponsor.

Pre-Application Information:

The deadline for applications is Monday, March 2, 2020, 11:59 PM. The application will be activated six weeks before each deadline.

Applicants are encouraged to discuss proposal ideas and eligibility with their program director prior to starting an MRAC application. Program Directors will provide feedback on applications prior to the deadline; contact your program director to set up a time to have materials reviewed.

There is no match required for requests up to $7000. There is a 4-1 match required for requests between $7001 and $10,000. The match can be general operating funds, past surpluses, other grants, and earned revenue you plan to raise.
