Additional Eligibility Criteria:

All public, private, charter, and parochial schools in the United States and Canada are eligible for the award provided:

- The state or province in which the school is located has an Exemplary Reading Program Award Committee currently in place to judge program applications from that state or province.

- At least one faculty or staff member of that school is a current ILA member.

To join, go to http://www.literacyworldwide.org/get-involved/membership.

A school receiving the award cannot apply again within a period of five years. A school is not eligible to apply if a current state or provincial council officer is employed in the school.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications must be postmarked no later than November 15 and received at International Reading Headquarters no later than November 28. Each participating state and province can choose one winning school.

To apply for the program, download the attached application form. Then prepare a description of your program, applying specifically the 10 guidelines listed in the application. The description may be in any order, as long as all criteria are addressed. Please limit the description to five pages. As part of the descriptions, please list the names and professional assignments of all those who were involved in completing the application.

Additional materials—photos and supplemental resources—can be submitted along with the application form and description, but only in electronic format, not hard copies. Please include these electronic materials on a CD or USB flash drive. Materials submitted in hard copy format will not be considered as part of the application.
