Grants to Canada low-income families to register children for sports programs or purchase sports equipment. Children may attend a broad range of qualifying sports programs within their province. Please note that the grants will be issued to sustained programs operated by Community Sports Organizations who hold membership with their respective Provincial Sport Organization.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Families can apply for up to $300 per child, per calendar year (January 1 - December 31st) to help offset the cost of organized sport registration and equipment. If you are requesting funds only for equipment the grant cannot exceed $200 per child.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible to receive funding, the child must be 18 years or younger by the application deadline date they are applying for.

Since the KidSport program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, grants are awarded to Provincial Sport Organizations and their eligible programs. Grants will be given out to sustained programs offered by Community Sport Organizations who hold membership with their respective Provincial Sport Organization.

To be eligible for this program your total income has to below the income cut-offs listed below.

In order to verify these cut-offs we require either a 2016 Tax Year Notice of Assessment, a 2016 Tax Summary or an endorsement from the Department of Community Services. We cannot accept T4's, T1 General Forms, GST/Child Tax benefit forms, Workers Compensation statements or paystubs.

To apply for a KidSport grant, please find your local chapter and download an application from the Apply for Assistance page.

Please note the application deadline dates for 2018 are January 2nd, March 1st, May 1st, July 3rd, September 4th, October 1st & November 1st. Application status updates will be provided within 4 weeks from the noted deadlines.

Applications for the November 1st, 2018 deadline will be accepted up until 4:30 PM that day. Any applications received after that deadline will be reviewed after the January 2019 deadline.
