Award to a Maryland nonprofit organization in eligible counties to recognize outstanding achievement in meeting community needs. The award is intended to honor one nonprofit organization that has shown excellent leadership and has provided benefit to residents in the tri-county area of the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland, comprised of Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester counties.

Award Criteria:

The criteria for the Award correspond closely to Richard A. Henson’s philosophy that achievements in the nonprofit sector should demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit, and that resources should be creatively marshalled to provide effective and timely responses to critical or emerging community needs. The Selection Committee looks for nonprofits that have demonstrated board leadership and responsibility within the organization to carry forth their mission and to cultivate financial support in the community.

The recipient of the Henson Nonprofit Excellence Award will receive a monetary award.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Award may be presented to a nonprofit organization in the counties of the Lower Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Pre-Application Information:

Nomination Deadline: August 31st of each year. Incomplete or late nominations will not be considered.

Nominations that do not win an award may be retained and considered for future years. Such nominations will receive notice annually from the selection committee and may provide updates, as applicable.
