Grants to Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana nonprofit organizations in eligible locations for programs to strengthen local communities. Focus areas include the arts, education, health and human services, and community development. The Foundation will also support specific funding interests identified by each of the individual benefactors. Eligible applicants are located in the Greater Cincinnati region.

Term of Contract:

In general, the Foundation prefers awarding grants for one year. In selected instances, The Foundation Office will accept requests for multiyear grants up to a maximum of three years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Nonprofit organizations that operate in the Greater Cincinnati region and are designated under section
501(c)(3) and subsections 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2) by the Internal Revenue Service are eligible to apply for a grant.

Limitations: Grant decisions are subject to the following administrative policies, which are intended to maximize the distribution of available resources to deserving nonprofit organizations.
- Individuals are not eligible for grants.
- Individual churches are not eligible, except for proposals regarding an affiliated school.
- Publicly supported entities such as public schools, government or government agencies are not eligible.
- Supporting organizations designated 509(a)(3) by the IRS are not eligible for funding.
- Walks/runs, dinners, galas, luncheons and other event sponsorship requests are not eligible.
- Athletic, band, and other school booster clubs are not eligible.
- Startup funding for new programs or organizations is usually not a funding priority.
- Grantseekers planning major campaigns should, well in advance of the campaign, discuss fundraising objectives and potential requests with The Foundation Office. Finite resources usually preclude the ability of The Foundation Office to contribute simultaneously to both major campaign and programming requests.
- A waiting period of three years is required for prior grant recipients receiving $10,000 or more from any funding source administered by The Foundation Office. This period will begin as of the first payment on the grant.
- Grant funds received may NOT be used by a grantee for any of the following purposes:
(A) To carry on propaganda or otherwise attempt to influence legislation, to influence the outcome of a public election, or to carry on a voter registration drive.
(B) To make a grant that does not comply with Section 4945(d)(3) or (4) of the Internal Revenue Code (the “Code”) regarding grants to individuals for travel, study or similar purposes or grants requiring expenditure responsibility.
(C) As security or a source of payment for the debt services on municipal securities or repayments on municipal bonds.
(D) To fund or finance any activity for any purpose other than charitable or educational purposes stated in Code Section 170(c)(2)(B).

Pre-Application Information:

Grant Inquiry Process:
- An organization interested in submitting a grant proposal should first submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI). LOIs are accepted from Oct. 1 - Dec. 31.
- The Foundation Office will review your LOI and may contact your organization about further discussion of the proposal, which may include a site visit.
- Your organization will receive either an email declining your inquiry or an invitation to submit a full application online. An invitation to apply will include the foundation funding source, recommended request amount and a deadline for receipt of the application.
- The Foundation Office will submit completed applications to the respective Foundation Board or Committee for final review and approval or declination.

Grantseekers should allow six to 12 months for the grantmaking process.

Nonprofits may apply only once within any 12-month period.
