Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $5,000 to North Carolina nonprofit organizations in eligible locations for programs, projects, and initiatives that benefit the African-American community. Funding is intended for activities within the focus areas of education, poverty, jobs and wages, and civic engagement, as well as criminal justice reform or racial justice efforts. Eligible programs benefit the Black community in Forsyth County.

Impact Grants may be used for general operating expenses and/or a specific program or project. The Grants Committee will make decisions based on eligibility, current and potential impact of the organization/project, and demonstrated dedication and passion for the work.

Strong preference will be given to:

  • Black-led groups/organizations (organizations with more than 50% of Black staff in leadership positions and/or more than 50% of board members are Black)
  • Organizations and programs that work within predominately Black neighborhoods (including 27101, 27105 and 27107)

Estimated Size of Grant:

While Impact Grants are typically investments of up to $1,000, grants up to $5,000 will be available during this grant cycle.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility:
- The organization/group must have an annual budget size under $150,000.
- If the organization/group does not have a 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, it must either have a fiscal agent that does have one or an organizational bank account.
- Organization/group must not proselytize or deny services based upon religious beliefs.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are due August 6, 2020.

Application Timeline:
- July 6: Impact grant opportunity announced
- August 6: Video application deadline (no exceptions)
- Week of August 24: Notification of funding decisions

BPI is requesting video applications (instead of written applications) to help minimize the time it takes for organizations to apply. Applicants should complete a brief online form and upload a maximum length 4-minute video.
