In-kind grants of trees to South Carolina government agencies, nonprofits, neighborhood associations, beautification groups, and litter control organizations for the beautification of public spaces. The program provides trees to be planted in public areas, such as parks, churches, schools, and town and neighborhood entryways, which are accessible to all citizens. All trees are in 5-gallon nursery pots, 2 to 6 feet in height and 1 to 1 ½ inch in diameter.

Project Requirements:

  • Trees must be planted on public property accessible to all citizens. 
  • Must submit a landscaping plan and/or photos of intended project area.
  • All projects planned in SCDOT right of ways must be approved by SCDOT and follow native planting guides for long-term results.
  • Must sign the long-term Tree Grant Maintenance Agreement.
  • Must perform at least one cleanup during the Great American Cleanup (March - May) and report cleanup results online.

  • Dogwood (White)  (Cornus florida)  
  • Eastern Redbud  (Cercis canadensis) 
  • Eastern Redcedar (Juniperus virginiana)
  • Green Giant Thuja  (Thuja standishii x plicata ‘G) 
  • Red Maple   (Acer Rubrum) 
  • Sawtooth Oak (Quercus acutissima)
  • Tuliptree (Liriodendron tulipfera)

Litter control organizations, beautification groups, government organizations, neighborhood associations and nonprofit organizations in South Carolina are eligible to apply for these trees.

Award recipients will be required to pick up the awarded trees from the SC Dept. of Correctional Horticulture Facility, on October 23, 2020.
