Grants of up to $5,000 to Tennessee municipal and county governments to restore, salvage, and preserve permanent archival records. Funds are intended to purchase supplies, furnishings, devices, and services that improve the preservation of collections, optimize operations, and enhance locator and inventory control.
Direct Grants to Local Government Archives awards funding that is most effectively concentrated on purchases or activities that improve the storage conditions of archival collections, operations, or public accessibility. Eligible projects could include purchases of archival shelving units, acid-free, lignin free folders and boxes, or other necessary archival supplies or environmental monitoring devices. Other potential projects might also include indexing of collections, contracted conservation treatments, creating a disaster preparedness plan, or improving on-line access to collections through digitization.
