Grant Description

Grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to Prince Edward Island artists, bands and music industry professionals to enhance sales, marketability and professional business development. Funding is intended to support three programs targeting applicants at various stages of their musical career.

The Emerging Music Program is designed to help new and less established artists gain a foothold in the Music Industry. This is achieved by investing in projects that will enhance the applicant’s sales and marketability, as well as foster the development of the applicant’s business skills.

The Export Development Program is designed is for artists and music industry professionals (MIPs) who demonstrate the potential to succeed in new or non-established markets outside of Prince Edward Island. Examples of eligible activity include the creation of a targeted demo, marketing and promotion, website development, touring and showcase expenditure, and professional business development.

The Career Investment Program is designed to make a substantial investment in Export-Ready and Exporting artists who have demonstrated a commitment to a career in the Music Industry and are currently exporting their product to markets outside of PEI.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

- The applicant must be a current member of Music PEI.

- Emerging Music Program applicants must be “Emerging Artists/Groups” or “Music Industry Professionals (MIP’s)”.

- Export Development Program applicants must be “Export Ready Artists”, “Exporting Artists”, or “Music Industry Professionals” (MIP’s).

- Career Investment Program Applicants must be “Export Ready Artists” or “Exporting Artists”.

For specific program requirements and qualifications, see the respective guidelines below.

All applicants must currently be a resident of Prince Edward Island. You must meet both of the following criteria:
- The primary artist and/or the majority of the group must have a permanent address in PEI.
- The applicant has been resident of PEI for at least one year.

Eligible Expenses:
- The creation of a “Targeted Demo” (max three songs) up to $1,000.00
- Touring/Showcase Support (primarily regional projects)
- Promotional Video
- Venue/facility rental (i.e. Album launch/rehearsal space)
- Design (Posters, CD Cover/Jackets)
- Printing Costs
- Electronic and Paper Press Kits
- Photography
- Web Development
- Live Performance Production Enhancement (performance coaching)
- Promotional Products (i.e. Give-aways, posters, drop cards, promo CDs and DVDs)
- Band Agreements (legal fees)
- General Marketing expenses (advertising, publicist fees etc.)

Ineligible applicants include, but are not limited to:
- Non-Profit Organizations
- Presenters
- School Choirs
- Non-Commercial Groups

Ineligible expenses may include, but are not limited to:
- Expenses incurred before the date the application is received at the MUSIC PEI office.
- Items produced for commercial sale are not eligible.

Independent jury meets 1-2 weeks after deadline. Decisions are made approximately 3-4 weeks and successful applicants will be notified by email.

Additional Funding Information:

Estimated Size of Grant:

-Emerging Music Program: Up to $1,200.
-Export Development Program: Up to $2,200.00.
-Career Investment Program Up to $10,000.00 over 1 year.

Term of Contract:

Recipients are expected to spend the funds allocated each year in the fiscal year they are allocated.
