Grants of up to $10,000 per year to Evanston, Illinois nonprofits, schools, and government agencies for programs that meet the needs of the community in the areas of organizational capacity building and infrastructure. Funding may be used for fundraising, marketing and branding, strategic plans, staff development, and board development.

The root2fruit grants program invests in capacity building for small and mid-size organizations that serve Evanston, providing annual grants, mentoring, and a learning community. Capacity building initiatives focus on building infrastructure to support an organization's long-term growth and sustainability so it can better fulfill its mission.

Up to three organizations will be selected for grants up to $10,000 each.

Term of Contract:

root2fruit is a three-year program.

Graduate organizations of the root2fruit program are eligible for one year alumni grants.

Grants will be for the 2019 calendar year and will be renewable for two years after the initial grant is received for a maximum award of $30,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Any group or organization providing services to Evanston residents may apply for a grant. Applicants are either 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, or government entities or groups who have a fiscal sponsor that qualifies as a tax-exempt organization under Sec. 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All proposals must address issues, concerns, or opportunities in the Evanston community.

root2fruit is open to organizations that have not previously participated in the three-year root2fruit program and also meet the eligibility requirements.

Please note that root2fruit grants support organizational capacity and are not given for specific projects.

If not a registered 501(c)3, provide a letter from your fiscal sponsor which confirms their support of your organization.

Pre-Application Information:

The application deadline is October 16, 2018.

Please note that participation in four grantee meetings annually is required of root2fruit grantees.
