Grant Description
Grants to Georgia nonprofit organizations to provide urgent assistance to local residents in eligible counties. Funding is intended to assist people experiencing economic emergencies. Eligible uses of funds include mortgage, rent, and utility assistance, shelter, and nutrition. Activities should benefit residents in Gwinnett County and/or the Atlanta/Fulton/DeKalb jurisdiction.

The EFSP is a restricted federal grant designed to provide supplemental funds for agencies that provide supportive services for people in need of emergency assistance.

The Federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) was created to supplement and expand the work of local social service agencies, both governmental and non-profit, in an effort to help people with economic (NOT disaster-related) emergencies. EFSP must be used for supplement feeding, sheltering (including transitional sheltering), rent/mortgage and utility assistance efforts only.

EFSP is governed by a National Board that selects jurisdictions for funding. Each jurisdiction must maintain a Local Board charged with determining the highest needs and best use of funds for that jurisdiction.
