Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants to Pennsylvania nonprofit organizations in eligible locations for projects that enhance the lives of local residents through programs in the arts, humanities, culture, education, health, environment, animals, and human services. Funding is intended for capital projects that provide long-term benefits. Capital is considered to be a physical item with at least a three- to five-year life span.

The Contributionship favors projects in the Greater Philadelphia area when they enhance the lives of those living there. The Trustees consider the Greater Philadelphia area to be Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and Lower Bucks Counties. The Trustees are most likely to respond positively when the project:

  • Stimulates a better understanding of the natural environment, and encourages the preservation of its important features;
  • Encourages more compassionate and cost-effective care for the ill and aging, in an atmosphere of dignity and self-respect; or
  • Promotes education, or medical, scientific, or on occasion, cultural developments enhancing the quality of life.

In addition, the Trustees from time to time support projects which:

  • Motivate promising young people to assess and develop their talents despite social and economic obstacles; or
  • Build infrastructure to promote enhanced delivery of services and community engagement, partnerships or collaboration; or
  • Encourage those in newspaper and related fields to become more effective and responsible in helping people understand better how, events in their communities and around the world affect them.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Evidence of tax-exempt status is required. Eligible organizations operate in the Greater Philadelphia area, which includes Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia, and Lower Bucks Counties.

The Contributionship does not fund the costs or expenses of existing staff allocated to a project it is asked to support.

In addition, the Contributionship asks that those organizations who have received a grant, rest for a calendar year (a year without a grant payment), before submitting a new proposal.

Pre-Application Information:

For timely consideration, applications must be received no later than six weeks before the next meeting of the Board of Trustees:

Application deadlines:

- February 8, 2021 [for the March 22, 2021 meeting]
- April 26, 2021 [for the June 7, 2021 meeting]
- September 2021 [Date to be determined]
- December 2021 [Date to be determined]

Applications will be carefully reviewed by the Trustees. If, in their judgment, the project falls within the framework of current priorities, more detailed information may be requested as well as a meeting or an on-site visit.

The Contributionship prefers that applications be submitted online. If you choose not to submit online, the Contributionship accepts the common grant application form of Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia, available in the Supporting Documents field below.
