Grants of up to $25,000 to Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec municipalities, Aboriginal communities, and Business Improvement Associations for innovative urban forestry projects in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver. The funding source encourages and supports the adoption of leading-edge practices in municipal forestry, aligning with the Canadian Urban Forest Strategy, including:

- Innovative urban forest planning (e.g. reduction of the urban heat island)

- Single tree and forest stand innovation demonstration projects (e.g. ecological services)

- Policy and best management practices workshops

- Outreach and educational activities on innovative practices including arboricultural practices (e.g. community workshops on urban tree care)

- Innovative management tools to protect and maintain the urban forest (e.g. urban forest inventories, urban tree care/maintenance programs)

- Innovative urban design which showcases "green infrastructure"[1] (e.g. watershed/riparian/stormwater management, brownfield restoration)

- Innovative planting techniques

[1] Green infrastructure refers to the use of trees, shrubs and other plants as an integrated part of urban design such that the environmental health and quality of life for communities is maximized.

Estimated Size of Grant:

TD Green Streets will provide funding of up to $25,000 to selected recipients.

Term of Contract:

Projects must be completed and final reports received by Tree Canada by December 31, 2016.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Municipalities, Aboriginal communities, and Business Improvement Associations in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver are eligible.

Key Dates:
- 2016 TD Green Streets applications must be received by November 30, 2015 at 11:59 PM PST.
- Grant recipients will be announced in February 2016.
- Grant recipients must notify Tree Canada of the date of their launch a minimum six weeks in advance. For events not held in the spring, recipients must provide their event launch date by May 30, 2016.
- Projects must be completed and final reports received by Tree Canada by December 31, 2016.
