Grants of up to $50,000 to Ontario registered charities, amateur athletic associations, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and housing corporations for sports and recreational programs to benefit local children and youth. Applicants must submit an expression of interest prior to submitting a full application.

What the Foundation Funds:

  • Project Proposals that align with one of the four (4) areas of impact: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind, Ready For School, Ready for Work. For more information on impact areas, see
  • Project Proposals that integrate both sport and intentional life-skills learning into their program plans.
  • ‍Project Proposals that serve youth aged 6-29 who face barriers.
  • Pilot programs with innovative or unique approaches
  • ‍Established programs with demonstrable impact
  • Administrative fees or program overhead up to 20% of the grant funds requested
  • Program staff salary, training, and capacity development
  • Research and evaluation costs

 MLSE Foundation prioritizes the following demographics:

  • Youth who face socio-economic barriers
  • Black youth
  • Newcomers/Refugee youth
  • Girl-identified youth (in the case of gender-specific programming)
  • LGBTQ2A+ Identified youth
  • Youth who identify as having a disability- intellectual or physical

Grant Amounts: $20,000, $30,000, $40,000, $50,000. Apply for what is needed. There is no preference given to the amount requested.

Term of Contract:

Awarded funds must be used within three (3) years.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

MLSE Foundation is only able to grant funds to organizations that are classified as a Qualified Donee by the Canadian Revenue Agency as follows:
- A registered charity
- A registered Ontario amateur athletic association
- A registered housing corporation in Ontario
- Metis, Inuit, or First Nation community/Band

Organizations that do not have Qualified Donee status are still eligible to apply in partnership with a Trustee Organization who has Qualified Donee Status.

Pre-Application Information:

- Deadline for Expression of Interest: March 19, 2021, no later than 5:00 pm ET
- Deadline for Full Applications (if shortlisted): May 7, 2021, 5:00 pm ET
- Final Decisions: June 2021

Application Process:
- Step 1: Once you confirm your organization is eligible, follow the prompts to register and create an Organization Profile in the Online Portal.
- Step 2: Once your Organization is accepted (1-2 days), complete the short Expression of Interest questions that will become available in your Online Portal. Register for a virtual grant workshop. Schedule a support call with an MLSE Foundation staff to review your proposal idea and answer any questions
- Step 3: Once submitted, a diverse Selection Circle will evaluate every Expression of Interest and short-list top applicants.
- Step 4: Shortlisted Organizations will be contacted to complete a Full Application that will become available in your online portal.
- Step 5: Full Applications will be evaluated by the Selection Circle.
