Grants of $50,000 to Ontario nonprofit organizations for recreational basketball, hockey, skating, or soccer programs that benefit youth in the community. Funding is intended for programs that encourage physical activity for youth, have a long-term impact, facilitate diversity, and provide measurable benefit to the community.
MLSE Foundation believes that all kids should have access to sport and the opportunity to develop lasting dreams on the playing field. With the support of all MLSE teams – the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors and Toronto FC – MLSE Foundation funds the refurbishment of local athletic facilities and programs that support kids through sports and recreation.
Program Proposals will be assessed using the following criteria:
-Fit with the MLSE Foundation mission
-Clear, measurable benefits to the community
-Potential for lasting impact, including sustainability and maintenance of Program
-Clear case for community support
-Programs that build more inclusive communities and address barriers of all types
-Programs that value, foster and celebrate diversity
-Facility considerations, including cost, permitting and potential programming opportunities

One (1) Grant in the amount of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000 CAD), to be awarded by MLSE Foundation through the Grant Program, for a basketball-related programming Project, one (1) Grant in the amount of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000 CAD), to be awarded to a hockey/skating-related programming Project and one (1) Grant in the amount of fifty thousand dollars ($50,000 CAD), to be awarded to a soccer-related programming Project.
The Grant must be spent within three (3) years of receiving it. The Project should be completed by no later than July 1, 2021. For Proposals related to programming, the Project funding should not extend beyond this three-year timeline., unless otherwise approved by MLSE Foundation.
Your organization must be a registered charity as designated by the Canada Revenue Agency or have a trustee that is a registered charity as designated by the Canada Revenue Agency.
The person submitting the Project Proposal must be an employee of the registered charitable organization associated with the Project Proposal or must outline the relationship with the trustee in a letter to MLSE Foundation.
The charitable organization associated with the Project Proposal must be located in Ontario and must serve youth in Ontario.
The person submitting the Project Proposal must be a permanent resident or citizen of Canada.
The person submitting the Project Proposal must be eighteen (18) years of age or older or, in the case of a minor under the age of eighteen (18), have written approval of a parent or guardian (which approval must be submitted with the Project Proposal).
-Organizations that are not designated by the Canada Revenue Agency as being a charitable organization and do not have a charitable registration number
-Organizations looking for assistance with endowments or capital campaigns
-Sports teams (both professional and amateur) requesting sponsorship support
-Organizations based outside of Ontario
-Organizations who intend to use Grant funds to support programs, projects or children based outside of Ontario
-Organizations who do not submit a Proposal directly, but instead as part of a third party initiative
-Projects that do not have a basketball, hockey/skating, or soccer focus
-Projects that do not serve youth
The application must be received by the deadline, January 12, 2018 at 5:00 PM. All components must be received by email.
Email completed application in Word format, in one single document. Program schedule and financials can be attached separately. The Proposal must be submitted in one of Canada's two official languages: English or French.
You will be contacted in March if you are selected. The Grant Recipient will be notified by telephone, using the numbers provided in his/her Proposal.
