Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council and Kemin Industries
Awards of $1,500 to Iowa K-12 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics teachers to recognize and support outstanding contributions to the quality of STEM education in the state. Nominations are invited on behalf of teachers who are significantly contributing to their students’ lives by providing an excellent curriculum and promoting lifelong learning and inspiring a passion for STEM.
This program is looking for educators who represent I.O.W.A., defined as:
-Innovative: Use unique ways to educate students to develop a curiosity in STEM fields.
-Outstanding: Have a true passion for education and provide an exceptional learning experience.
-Worldly: Help students see that STEM is all around us and is more than the sum of its parts.
-Academic: Engage students in the classroom, preparing them for higher education and high- demand careers.

This award will honor one teacher from each of the six STEM regions.
Each recipient will receive $1,500, as well as another $1,500 to be used in their classroom.
Eligible nominees include licensed, full-time, K-12 Iowa STEM teachers in public or non-public schools. Nominations for previous award recipients and self-nominations will not be accepted.
Everyone—administrators, teachers, counselors, parents, students and others STEM advocates—are encouraged to submit a nomination.
Self-nominations will not be eligible for review and will be discarded.
After you have created your account in the online system, the website will prompt you to fill out and submit a nomination form. Then, an email will automatically be sent to the teacher you’ve nominated, at the email address provided in the nomination, notifying them of the nomination. This email will also include directions on how they can complete their application.
Nominations for the 2019 I.O.W.A. STEM Teacher Award will be open starting August 19, 2018, in conjunction with STEM Day at the Iowa State Fair.
The timeline for the 2019 I.O.W.A. STEM Teacher Award is as follows:
-August 19, 2018 --- Nominations open
-October 9, 2018 --- Nominations close/Applications open
-November 12, 2018 --- Applications close
-January/Early February 2019 --- School ceremonies for 2019 recipients
-February 13, 2019 --- STEM Day at the Capitol & formal 2019 recipient ceremony
