Grants to Wisconsin and Michigan nonprofit organizations in eligible communities for activities that promote economic health, education, arts and culture, and the environment. Eligible organizations must benefit communities that are served by the Funding Source. See Grant Coverage Areas below for a link to a list of eligible communities.

While a limited amount of capital campaigns are supported, the majority of giving is for programs or projects.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The majority of grants have been for $5,000 or less. Grants of $25,000 or more are rare.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applications are accepted from qualified charitable, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations.

Organizations must benefit communities that are served by the funding source. See Grant Coverage Areas below for a link to a list of eligible communities.

Grants generally are not made for the following purposes:
- Fraternal organizations (such as veterans organizations, Rotary)
-Individuals
-Trips, tours, pageants, team or extra-curricular school events, and student exchange programs
-Programs or initiatives where the primary purpose is the promotion of religious doctrine or tenets
-Political action or legislative advocacy groups
-Programs with a purpose that is solely athletic in nature
-Organizations located outside the geographic boundaries of the service territory, except to fund a specific project that is delivered directly to customer communities
-Organizations determined by the IRS to be not tax-exempt under 501(c)(3)

The We Energies Foundation Board reserves the right to determine eligibility. Funding is not provided for programs that provide assistance with energy costs, energy-related projects, or renewable energy projects.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications for first quarter must be received by Jan. 31, second quarter by April 30, third quarter by July 31 and fourth quarter by Oct. 31.

Applications are accepted throughout the year. Review and approval may take up to 90 days from the respective quarterly application deadline date. Applicants are requested to submit their application at least three months before funds are needed. Applicants will be notified by mail or email of review process outcome and any dollar amount if the application is approved.
