Grants of up to $10,000 to British Columbia registered charities and qualified donees for community benefit programs in eligible locations. Focus areas include the environment, youth and education, arts, heritage and culture, sport and recreation, and health, wellness, and safety. Funding is intended to benefit the West Vancouver and North Shore community.

West Vancouver Foundation supports charitable organizations working to create and sustain a healthy and vibrant North Shore, where everyone is valued, contributes, and feels they belong. Community Grants aim to support connection and belonging for the North Shore community and will support a wide range of organizational needs. 

Eligible initiatives:

  • Must be charitable in nature;
  • Fall within the Impact Areas as listed above;
  • Must be for the benefit of the community of West Vancouver or the North Shore;
  • Improve connection and belonging for the West Vancouver and North Shore Community.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Who Can Apply:
- A non-profit is eligible to apply if it serves the West Vancouver community and is a registered charity or qualified donee with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
- Organizations that are not registered charities but wish to apply for funding are encouraged to develop a formal and genuine partnership with a registered charity whose mandate is similar. The registered charity would apply for funds for the proposed project on their behalf. CRA recommends that the relationship between the registered charity and the non-charitable organization is documented. Visit CRA’s website for more details:

The following initiatives are ineligible:
- Deficit reduction (e.g. debts or loans);
- Building an endowment or general fundraising;
- Sponsorships;
- Primarily benefitting individuals (such as scholarships);
- Expenses incurred before the date of grant approval;
- Initiatives without specific benefit to West Vancouver;
- Religious activities or services that focus on only one spiritual tradition;
- Political activity that is prohibited by the Canada Revenue Agency.
- Current curricula for schools.

Pre-proposal Conference:

The Foundation will be holding webinars, to review the program, application process, and answer questions, on the below dates. Registration is required.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications will be submitted using the online grants portal. The portal will open November 16, 2020 to January 29, 2021.

Staff may contact you to discuss your application or to set up a site visit. The Grants Committee will meet to recommend grants for approval by the Board of Directors. By the end of March 2021, you will receive an email notifying you if your grant request was approved or denied
