Grants of $2,500 to Canada nonprofits, schools, organizations, and IHE sports programs to support gender equality in sports. A portion of funds will be allocated to organizations and initiatives serving or led by women and girls who are Indigenous peoples, people of color, LGBTQI2S+, deaf persons, and persons with disabilities.

The WISE Fund is to build capacity for gender equity within organizations and support them to expand quality opportunities for girls and women to participate and lead in sport.
  1. With a recognition of the challenges that lie ahead due to COVID-19, Canadian Women & Sport is committed to supporting Canadian organizations through their recovery process and to supporting their work to advance gender equity.
  2. Canadian Women & Sport is committed to the equitable distribution of grant funds to all communities and underrepresented groups across the country.

Eligible for Funding

  • Organizations and/or initiatives that help keep girls and women participating in sport throughout their lives
  • Initiatives that increase the leadership capacity of girls in women in sport
  • Initiatives that enhance an organization’s capacity for gender equity
  • Organizations and/or initiatives that focus on supporting marginalized girls and women in sport

Canadian Women & Sport does not require that initiatives include only women and girls. Canadian Women & Sport supports initiatives with objectives that advance gender equity and are inclusive beyond the gender binary.

Examples of Eligible Uses of Funds

  • Expenses directly related to the initiative activities, including:
  • Compensation for human resources directly related to initiative activities (i.e. salaries, facilitator honoraria, etc.)
  • Venue costs
  • Marketing and communications
  • Travel costs related to carrying out the initiative
  • Equipment costs
  • Participant training/registration fees

The 2021 WISE Fund will award grants to 30 organizations.

Recipients will be required to spend grand funding by March 31st, 2022.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

- Sport organizations (NSOs, MSOs, PSOs, clubs)
- Community organizations
- University/college sport programs
- Schools
- Non-profit organizations
- Organizations who have previously received funding

This year, the Fund will reinforce its commitment to equity by dedicating a minimum of 60% of grant funding to go toward organizations/initiatives led by or directly serving women and girls who are:
- Indigenous peoples (First Nations, MĂ©tis, and Inuit)
- People of Colour (people who are non-white, regardless of birthplace)
- Deaf Persons, Persons with Disabilities

Canadian Women & Sport is committed to equitably distributing grants to reflect the diversity present in Canada. Based on principles of equity and anti-oppression best practices, these considerations include race, ethnicity, geography, language, sexual orientation, and ability.

- Individual applicants are not eligible for funding for personal use
- International organizations/initiatives serving communities outside of Canada

Ineligible activities include:
- Funding for Canadian Women & Sport Services
- Costs incurred before September 2020
- Prize monies/awards
- Insurance costs
- Liquor and alcohol costs
