Grants of up to $95,000 to family-run mental health nonprofits and tribal organizations in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Washington, DC, Wisconsin, Wyoming, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands.

The goal of funding is to improve the State's ability to support families that have children with mental health issues, provide them with information and referrals, and enable families to have a voice in mental health services planning and policy development.

Eligible organizations have more than 50% of their board members caring for a child with a serious emotional issue.

The purpose of this program is to enhance state capacity and infrastructure to better respond to the needs of children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances (SED) and their families by providing information, referrals, and support to families who have a child, youth, or adolescent with mental health challenges, and to create a mechanism for families to participate in state and local mental health services planning and policy development.

By strengthening the knowledge and capacity of families with children who have mental health challenges to act as agents of transformation in influencing the type and amount of services provided to them and their children, SAMHSA expects to enhance services and systems, improvement outcomes, and mental health care that is family-driven and youth-guided.
