Grants to British Columbia and Yukon agencies and schools to provide swimming lessons to third grade students during school hours. Funds may be used to help defray the costs of transporting students between school and pool, instructor costs, and aquatic facility rental costs.

The Lifesaving Society will only fund applicants who have the capacity to execute the Swim to Survive School Program successfully. Priority will be given to:
• Incorporated organizations such as school boards, schools, municipalities, and YMCAs.
• School boards and individual schools with confirmed access to aquatic facilities.

In reviewing applications, the Lifesaving Society will evaluate:
• Community support including volunteer time, contributions from other organizations.
• Grant-per-student ratio. The Society aims to deliver survival training to as many students as possible. Therefore, the grant-per-student becomes an important factor in maximizing the impact of the available funds.

Effort will be made to allocate grants within each region to both rural and urban locations, separate and public school boards.

Any municipality affiliated with the BC & Yukon Branch of the Lifesaving Society is eligible to apply. Any school board, municipality, regional district or private aquatic facility is eligible to apply as well as a partnership of school boards or schools with regional governments, municipalities, and aquatic facilities.

The Lifesaving Society will also accept applications from individual elementary schools in districts where the municipality or local school board is not participating.

To apply, download the attached application form.
