Grants to USA and territories local governments, nonprofit organizations, tribal entities, and public housing authorities for neighborhood improvement projects. Required registrations may take several weeks to complete. Funding is intended to develop and implements plans to revitalize distressed neighborhoods. Funding is intended for planning and early action activities.
The Choice Neighborhoods program leverages significant public and private dollars to support locally driven strategies that address struggling neighborhoods with distressed public and/or HUD-assisted housing through a comprehensive approach to neighborhood transformation. Local leaders, residents, and stakeholders, such as public housing authorities, cities, schools, police, business owners, nonprofits, and private developers, come together to create and implement a plan that revitalizes distressed HUD housing and addresses the challenges in the surrounding neighborhood. The program helps communities transform neighborhoods by redeveloping severely distressed public and/or HUD-assisted housing and catalyzing critical improvements in the neighborhood, including vacant property, housing, businesses, services and schools. To this end, Choice Neighborhoods is focused on three core goals:
Objectives and Metrics to Measure Long Term Success: Each Choice Neighborhoods grantee must develop a Transformation Plan that addresses the Housing, People, and Neighborhood objectives. For details on the objectives for each of the funding areas, see: https://www.hud.gov/sites/dfiles/SPM/documents/CNP_FY20_FR-6400-N-38.pdf#page=5
Information about Early Action Activities can be found at https://www.hud.gov/sites/dfiles/SPM/documents/CNP_FY20_FR-6400-N-38.pdf#page=10.
