Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $5,000 to California nonprofit or tax-exempt organizations in eligible regions for community activities that meet identified needs. New applicants must participate in a pre-application workshop. Funding is intended to support local arts and civic projects. Eligible recipients must be located within or serve the residents of the City of Encinitas.

Funding requests shall be classified into two basic categories:

  1. Civic (i.e. social, recreation, education, health, environmental)
  2. Arts (i.e. visual arts, performing arts, arts education, literary arts)

Priority is given to projects or programs:

  • With ability or likelihood to sustain itself after initial funding.
  • With matching funds and/or in-kind services.
  • Not eligible for Community Development Block Grant
    funding.

Additional criteria for selection are:

  1. Project or program has ability or likelihood to sustain itself after initial funding.
  2. Priority is given to projects or programs that have matching funds and/or in-kind services.
  3. Preference is given to projects or programs not eligible for Community Development Block Grant funding.

All funded programs must occur during the grant cycle of July 1, 2020 – June 14, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility:
-Organization must hold not-for-profit or tax exempt status.
-Organization must be legally organized and based in Encinitas or provide activity/services that directly benefit the citizens of Encinitas. Preference will be given to projects or programs that take place in Encinitas.
-Individuals and community groups, not holding a non-profit/tax-exempt status, may apply to the community grant program provided they partner with a non-profit/tax-exempt organization. In this instance, the non profit/tax-exempt organization must submit the application and serve as the fiscal agent.

Funding shall not be provided to individuals unassociated with a nonprofit organization, City departments, or to assist religious, fraternal or political purposes.

Important Dates:
-Monday, March 2, 2020 - Grant application for 2020/2021 are now available.
-Monday, March 16, 2020, 4:00-5:00 PM - New Applicant Workshop for first-time applicants.
-Thursday, April 9, 2020, 3:00 PM - Grant Application Deadline. Application packages must be mailed to City Hall or delivered to the main lobby at City Hall.
-Wednesday, June 10, 2020, 6:00 PM - City Council meeting for funding allocations.
-Thursday, June 11, 2020 - Allocation results will be e-mailed to all applicants.
-Monday, July 20, 2020, 4:00-5:00 PM - Grant Recipient Workshop & contract distribution (mandatory for all grant recipients), City Hall.

The City of Encinitas Community Grant Program is a reimbursement based program. Funds are reimbursed upon submission of paid invoices, receipts, and other supporting documentation of program expenditures, all of which must align with the stated purpose for which grant funds have been requested.
