Grants generally ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 to central and southern Virginia nonprofit organizations for health programs that address the health needs of residents in Lynchford, Bedford, and the Southside region. Funding is intended for solutions and projects for community health needs and issues as stated in the funding source's community health needs assessment.

Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) Topline Findings for Each of Its Three Major Markets:

Bedford
Access to Care: Increase access to programming, appointments and education to reduce infant mortality among the African-American population.

Access to Transportation: Expand use and availability of transportation for the people of the Bedford area.

Mental Wellness: Increase access to and promote integration of usage for mental healthcare and wellness services.

Family and Childhood Poverty: Expand initiatives and support of families and children living below poverty level.

Lynchburg:
Community Support for Self-Advocacy: Partner with churches, schools, healthcare facilities and local governments to create and share existing community resources for healthcare needs and easier navigation.

Mental Health: Increase education, awareness, and access to destigmatize mental health and provide educational resources to assist with prevention, while raising awareness of existing resources in the community.

Addiction: Increase education, prevention and access to provide educational tools to assist with prevention and increase access.

Southside:
Mental Health: Increase education, awareness, and access to destigmatize mental health and provide educational resources to assist with the prevention of while raising awareness of existing resources in the community.

Access to Transportation: Work with existing transportation resources to enhance transportation access so healthcare is easy to get to.

Community Support for Self-Advocacy: Partner with churches, schools, healthcare facilities and local governments to create and share existing community resources for healthcare needs and easier navigation.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Most grant awards fall in the range of $10,000 to $30,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The organization must be exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3) and not be classified as a private foundation or private operating foundation as defined in Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code.

As a rule, the Centra Community Health Initiative Fund will not provide funds for:
- Athletic organizations
- Conference or symposium attendance
- Endowment campaigns
- Individuals
- Institutions or organizations which do not qualify for tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service
- Political campaigns, candidates or partisan activities
- Programs with a religious purpose
- Travel

To receive consideration, proposals should be submitted by March 1.
