Grant Description

Grants to Saskatchewan nonprofits, for-profits, agencies, First Nations, and individuals to fund new field-based projects and analysis of archeological or paleontological collection(s) in order to develop an understanding of the extent and nature of the sites. Research must be original.

Eligible expenses:
- Contracted personnel - Fees and expenses for contracted personnel with specialized expertise
- Travel, accommodation and sustenance costs - In-province travel, accommodation and sustenance costs
- Equipment and materials - Rental of specialized equipment and/or materials necessary for the research. (e.g. equipment related to geophysical and aerial characterization of a site)
- Artifact analysis - Costs associated with analysis of artifacts, specimens and/or samples.

Eligibility:

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

- Applications will be considered from municipalities, First Nations, incorporated not-for-profit organizations, private individuals and corporations.
- Out-of-province applicants may apply for direct project costs related to the investigation of a Saskatchewan heritage resource.
- Agencies of the Provincial or Federal government are not eligible.

Ineligible Expenses
- Salaries - Salaries and benefits of the grant applicant and/or employees of the institution sponsoring the project are not eligible for funding assistance.
- Work prior to the Adjudication / Notification Deadline - Any work undertaken previous to the adjudication/ notification deadline is not eligible for funding assistance.
- Costs for preparation of the application - All costs associated with the preparation of the application are the responsibility of the applicant.
- Top-Up Funds - Applicants may not ‘top-up’ an approved award in a subsequent deadline to move them closer to the SHF’s funding of 50% for a project, and/or a particular phase of a project.

The SHF does not fund the following at this time:
• Community and/or family histories
• Publications
• Educational workshops
• Promotional material
• Genealogy studies
• Artifact purchase or restoration
• Collections purchase or restoration multiyear requests.

Pre-Application Information:

Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation Staff provide support to the grant applicant in advance of an application deadline by directing the applicant to information and potential funding sources, and clarifying aspects of the application as needed. Applicants are encouraged to contact the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation well in advance of an application deadline.
