Grants of up to $10,000 to Tennessee nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and educational institutions for community benefit programs in eligible counties. Funding is intended to support projects that focus on at-risk youth, food insecurity, aid to frontline workers, mental health, and substance abuse.

By establishing the CNS Y-12 Community Investment Fund at ETF, CNS has created opportunities for its employees to award grants benefiting nonprofit organizations in their 20-county service area in East Tennessee, which includes but is not limited to the City of Oak Ridge, and Anderson and Roane counties. (20 counties: Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Claiborne, Cocke, Cumberland, Grainger, Hamblen, Jefferson, Knox, Loudon, McMinn, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Rhea, Roane, Scott, Sevier, Union)

2021 funding preference will be given to proposals that effectively address one or more of the following priorities:

  • Mental Health - with emphasis on substance abuse issues. Projects that address the increasing number of adolescents and adults who have been suffering from depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and illicit drug use, addiction, and other mental health issues.
  • Critical Needs with emphasis on:
    • ​Food Insecurity: Projects such as the purchase and distribution of food to individuals and families in need, emergency food pantries, and other ways to provide essential nutritious food;
    • At-Risk Youth: Such as projects addressing children's healthcare and safety, educational issues (such as educational resources and internet access), nutritional needs; and/or
    • Aid to Frontline Workers: Availability of PPE and related supplies, food donations and catered meals, and other forms of aid.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Grants will generally range from $2,000 to $10,000.

Term of Contract:

Grants will be awarded for one-year terms.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are awarded to benefit nonprofit organizations in CNS's 20-county service area in East Tennessee.

Eligible organizations must have and be able to provide documentation to verify the following:
- Confirmation that the organization is a 501(c)(3) public charity, unit of government, or educational institution
- New or emerging groups that do not have nonprofit status may apply if they have an established nonprofit organization as a fiscal sponsor
- Employee Identification Number (EIN)
- Confirmation that the organization operates and is organized so as to not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, familial status, sexual orientation, age, disability, covered veteran status, or other characteristics as identified in the Foundation’s Non-Discrimination Policy Statement.

The following types of requests will not be funded:
- Grants to individuals. (ETF is restricted by law and therefore unable to provide grants directly to individuals.)
- Projects that have explicit religious content, express a particular religious view, or advance a religious purpose
- Debt retirement or budget deficits
- Endowment funds or general fundraising campaigns
- Capital improvements

Grants will be awarded in July 2021.

Applications may be submitted for multiple grantmaking programs, but only ONE application may be submitted by the same organization to a specific grant-making program.
