Grants of up to $16,000 to California artists and nonprofit organizations to commission new artistic work by local artists in eligible counties. New applicants must attend or view a recording of a webinar. Funding is intended to support the creation of new artwork with a focus on social justice. Applicants must live or be located in Contra Costa or Alameda County.

EBCF’s overall goals for this work:

  • Support for the creation of new works by local artists and for East Bay organizations, specifically work with a lens towards social justice
  • Support for composers, playwrights, choreographers, visual, media, traditional and interdisciplinary artists in the Bay Area
  • Support for a diversity of artistic practices and organizations
  • Provide opportunities for communities of color to experience art that represents their culture and history

Organizations:

  • Commission must be for new works
  • Funding must be allocated to lead artists’ fees only.
  • EBFA requires an East Bay presentation of your work.

Artists: Artists from all artistic disciplines are welcome to apply.

  • Commission must support a new work or a new interpretation of a traditional form
  • Funding must be allocated to lead artists’ fees only.

Estimated Size of Grant:

EBCF’s East Bay Fund for Artists Initiative will be awarding grants of $1,000-$16,000.

Term of Contract:

Awardees must present their work within a year of grant award.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations and individual applicants can apply.

Eligibility Requirements for Organizations:
- Organizations applying must not have been an EBFA awardee during the 2019 calendar year
- Organizations must have a budget under $2,000,000
- Applicant must be an organization located in Alameda or Contra Costa County
- Commissioned artist(s) must be a Bay Area resident
- Organizations must be a 501c3 or have a fiscal sponsor
- Exhibition spaces, performance presenters, media and arts organizations may apply

Eligibility Requirements for Artists:
- Individuals applying must not have been an EBFA awardee during the 2019 calendar year
- Applicant must live in Alameda or Contra Costa County
- Artist must have a 501c3 fiscal sponsor
- Artists from all artistic disciplines are welcome to apply (filmmakers must have budgets under $50,000 or show other significant support for the project)

Pre-proposal Conference:

New EBFA applicants must attend an EBFA presentation or view a webinar.
