Description:

Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $25,000 annually to California nonprofits in San Francisco, Marin, and Napa Counties that provide programs that advance academic or personal enrichment and that provide environmental and agricultural education. Funding will be provided for general expenses with a special interest in helping organizations become sustainable.

Specifically, the foundation currently prioritizes organizations that focus on:

- Academic or personal enrichment programs that open doors of opportunity for participants through education or experience, or

- Environmental and agricultural education programs that promote a deeper connection with, or a strong sense of stewardship for, the land and nature.

The foundation will fund general operating support, but it has a special interest in helping organizations to develop their sustainability. Some examples of this type of grant might be:

- A grant to explore a potential earned income stream so that an organization doesn’t have to rely as much on fundraising,
- A grant to fund a consultant who can recommend more efficient staffing patterns,
- A capital grant for an improvement that would help an organization to reach a higher level of client service, or
- A grant for a convening of organizations serving the same types of clients or the same neighborhood, so that the organizations can work together to ensure that there is not duplication of services.

These are just a few ideas—you may come up with others. All sustainability projects should have a tangible goal that will show that the organization has improved in some way, as well as a defined timeline.
