Grant Description

Grants averaging from $5,000 to $10,000 to Connecticut nonprofits and municipalities in Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills area for critical services that will help women and children victims of domestic violence and abuse. Priority will be given to direct service programs that serve victims of physical, emotional or psychological abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence.

Funding is also intended to help address immediate crises and to provide a framework of emotional support and guidance that will promote the development of self-confidence, pride, dignity and personal advancement to those who have suffered from such destructive behavior.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

1. Applicant must be a not-for-profit organization recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or a municipal entity seeking a grant for public purposes.

2. Applicant must have a board, representative of the community, of which a majority is neither employees nor relatives of employees.

3. Applicant must be located within and/or providing services to residents of the 21-town service area: Beacon Falls, Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Cheshire, Goshen, Litchfield, Middlebury, Morris, Naugatuck, New Milford, Oxford, Prospect, Roxbury, Southbury, Thomaston, Warren, Washington, Waterbury, Watertown, Wolcott or Woodbury.

4. Applicant must have a Nonprofit Registration to Solicit Funds (or exemption, if appropriate) from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. This registration must be renewed annually. To learn more, confirm your registration, or file for an exemption, go to

5. Ineligible Requests:
a. Grant requests for political or religious purposes are not accepted.
b. Religious organizations or municipalities are not eligible to apply for grants for buildings or expenses related to buildings. However, they may apply for equipment that is specifically part of an eligible programmatic request.
c. Grant requests for capital expenditures on buildings not owned by a nonprofit are not accepted.
