Grants of up to $20,000 to Vermont nonprofit organizations addressing the economic, social and environmental impacts of poverty. Funding will be provided to programs that are working towards fundamental changes in Vermont and to programs that approach their work through the lens of social justice and equity.

Preference will be given to programs that promote:

-Equality in education
-Access to safe and affordable housing
-Access to jobs with livable wages
-Workers rights
-Access to affordable health care and
-Access to healthy and affordable food

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Organizations may receive grants from Ben & Jerry’s Foundation through a fiscal agent with 501(c)(3) status if they do not have the status of their own. A letter of intention from the fiscal agent is required along with their IRS determination letter with the submittal of your full proposal.

Organizations must be Vermont-based.

The program is not intended to fund:

-Projects that solely provide direct services to individuals
-Discretionary or emergency requests
-Schools or programs for schools
-Colleges or universities
-Individuals or scholarship programs
-Research, litigation or legal expenses
-Capital or endowment campaigns
-State agencies or government sponsored programs
-Businesses or business associations
-Religious activities
-Other foundations or regranting organizations
-Organizations or programs that are focused or based outside the state of Vermont

Organizations with annual operating budgets under $1 million are preferred.

Pre-Application Information:

Proposals may be submitted through the online application process, from April 17. The deadline for submissions is July 10, 2017 for review in September.

Organizations that have received a grant previously are welcome to apply for a renewal grant under the Vermont Economic Justice Grant Program, provided a final report has been submitted in a timely manner. There are no guarantees for renewal funding however, and after three grant awards, organizations will be asked to refrain from reapplying for at least two years.
