Grants of up to $5,000 to South Carolina public middle schools with technology programs for a summer camp that will provide students with the fundamentals of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and prepare them for a technology-oriented high school.

Funding will be provided for STEM equipment. supplies, and related field trips, lunch, snacks, and other summer camp participant–related costs.

Applicants will receive funding to run a hands-on, project-based camp designed to introduce middle school students to the fundamentals of science, technology, engineering, and manufacturing (STEM); recruit them into the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Gateway to Technology (GTT) course work at the middle school level; and enroll them in the Pathway to Engineering curriculum at the high school level.

Certified PLTW/GTT instructors will provide expert instruction in small group settings. Students will work together in a fun, exciting environment using leading-edge technologies to sample such disciplines as robotics, aerospace, rockets, eco-design and manufacturing, and alternative energy.
