Grant Description
Grants to Ontario registered charities in eligible regions for programs that benefit local residents. Funding is intended to address community health and stability, education and literacy, and employment preparedness. Eligible charities are located in and benefit residents of Renfrew County.

United Way invests in projects that align with its Focus Areas:

  • All That Kids Can Be – Improving school readiness, access to early childhood learning, after school and literacy development programs
  • Poverty to Possibility – Breaking the poverty cycle through employment, financial literacy, and education initiatives
  • Healthy People, Strong Communities – Improving access to social and health-related support services while supporting community engagement, integration, and settlement.


Additional Eligibility Criteria
General Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicant must be a registered charity (with its own RR number)
- Applicant must maintain a volunteer board that meets regularly
- Applicant must host an Annual General Meeting
- Applicant must have financial statements that have been audited by a licensed public accountant.*
* Charities with revenues less than $250,000 may submit reviewed financial statements only if they have been funded by United Way East Ontario in any funding stream within the past 5 years (2018/19 – 2023) and are in good standing with the organization.

If any of the eligibility criteria are not met, applicants must establish a formal partner sponsorship agreement with a registered charity (with its own RR Number) that meets all of the above criteria.

Other Eligibility Criteria:
- The activities proposed by the applicant must benefit residents in one of United Way East Ontario’s catchment areas (Ottawa, Lanark County, Renfrew County, and the United Counties of Prescott and Russell).
- The request submitted by the applicant must clearly support stated strategic priority(s). - The applicant (or partnering sponsor organization, in the case of sponsored applicants) must be financially solvent.
- The applicant must carry sufficient liability insurance (at least $2 million) to cover the program/project seeking United Way funding.

- Agency Information Sessions: November 21-22, 2023
- CFP Launch and Deadline: January 16, 2024 – February 21, 2024, 1:00 PM ET
- Checklist and Sponsorship Deadline: February 21, 2024
- Assessment Review: February 26, 2024 – April 26, 2024
- Corporate Oversight Committee – Presentation of Recommendations for approval: TBD
- Notification to Agencies: By May 1, 2024
- July 1, 2024: Funding Agreement begins for successful applicants

Only one application is needed for multi-regional programs.
