Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $10,000 to New York nonprofit organizations to promote local arts, culture, history, education, and the environment in eligible locations. Requests will be considered to support capital campaigns and capital expenditures. Preference is given to projects in the City and County of Albany; however, the area within a radius of no more than 30 miles measured from the site of the present New York State Capitol building (State Street, Albany) will also be considered.

Grants usually range between $5,000 and $10,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for competitive grants, applicants must qualify under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code as a nonprofit organization or operate under the fiscal sponsorship of a qualifying nonprofit organization. The Foundation accepts proposals from organizations whose directors are active as volunteers, directors or donors.

If your organization was awarded a grant in 2018, please do not apply for new Bender Family Foundation funding until 2020. If your organization is awarded a grant in 2020, you will be eligible to apply for new Bender Family Foundation funding in 2022.

The Foundation does not make grants to individuals or to support annual fund drives.

- Pre-Application Questionnaires Due: March 18, 2021
- Formal Applications Due: May – June 2021. Specific due date will be indicated on the formal application.
- Final Decisions Will Be Made: August 2021

The Foundation will award challenge grants and will permit grants to be used as matching funds for other foundation grants.

Grants will not be made to the same organization in consecutive years
