Grants to USA nonprofit organizations, schools, and libraries in eligible regions to implement or expand summer reading programs. Eligible organizations will serve residents of and be located in the Funding Source's area of service. Funding is intended for programs that target Pre-K-12th grade students, below grade level readers, and assist readers with learning disabilities.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Local nonprofit organizations, schools, and libraries are eligible to apply.

Applications can only be accepted from eligible tax-exempt organizations as described by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Code as described in section 501(c)(3) and/or Public Libraries.

Organizations must provide direct service and reside within a state in which Dollar General operates. Organizations must be located within 15 miles of a Dollar General store.

Organizations that have received a Summer Reading grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation in the last two consecutive years (2018 and 2019) are not eligible for the 2020 Summer Reading Grant. Organizations may reapply next year.

Organizations seeking financial support from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation must willing and able to certify that their charitable and/or educational programs and services are offered and provided to the intended beneficiaries without discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, national origin, religion, disability, medical condition, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, age or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or other local laws. This provision is not intended to deny support or funding for organizations that offer programs and services to a specifically defined population or group of people.
