Grant Description
Grants to California public agencies and nonprofits for a variety of measures that reduce traffic accidents and fatalities at night, or related to substance abuse and/or involving motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Applicants unsure of project eligibility and nonprofits should call the program office before applying. Projects will target primary collision factors.

The funded strategies may include impaired driving enforcement, enforcement operations focusing on primary collision factors, distracted driving, night-time seat belt enforcement, special enforcement operations encouraging motorcycle safety, enforcement and public awareness in areas with a high number of bicycle and pedestrian collisions, and educational programs.

These strategies are designed to earn media attention thus enhancing the overall deterrent effect.

Funds are intended as “seed money” to start new programs.

Applicants must be able to provide Traffic Safety Data that demonstrates how your program will save lives on the roadways and be able to demonstrate using performance measures with 1 year of funding.
