Grant Description
Grants of up to $5,000 to Wichita, Kansas public school teachers for classroom-based projects focused on business entrepreneurship or STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) topics. Projects will enhance student learning by addressing identified program needs. Ideally, projects will stem from identifying and prioritizing student and classroom needs and appropriate methods to improve student learning.

Funding consideration will go to:

-Innovative, high quality classroom initiatives that will enhance teaching and learning in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) or business entrepreneurship.

-Resources, equipment, materials, and supplies necessary for successful implementation.

-Proposals that describe how the initiative will be replicated with more than one classroom, grade level, and/or other group of students at the school.

Koch Classroom Mini-Grants are limited to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) or business entrepreneurship classroom projects that are aligned with the district's MTSS initiative.

Additional Eligibility Criteria
Funding from the Koch Classroom Mini-Grant program is limited to USD 259. All school-based licensed staff are eligible to apply, with the understanding that this program is focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) and business entrepreneurship projects.

Not Funded:
-Requests that rely on an EDGE Mini-Grant or other district-level source to complete funding;
-Salaries, stipends, or supplementals for any staff member;
-Equipment or resources that are not integral to the implementation of a program;
-Technology that is not pre-approved by Information Services and Technology;
-Instructional software/web sites that are not pre-approved by Learning Services and Information Services and Technology;
-Curriculum or instructional programs that are not pre-approved by Learning Services;
-Professional development/workshop fees or expenses;
-Scholarships or fellowships to individuals; and/or
-Indirect/administrative costs.

-Start date for program activities: Late May 2016
-Mid-year report due to appropriate Assistant Superintendent: December 9, 2016
-Date for final expenditure of funds: April 10, 2017

-Final report due: May 1, 2017

Estimated Size of Grant
-Individual Teacher: Up to $1,500.
-Team of Teachers: Up to $5,000.

Term of Contract
Grants will be awarded in late May 2016 for implementation during the 2016-17 school year. All funds must be spent by April 10, 2017.
