Grants to Nebraska and Iowa nonprofit organizations to break the cycle of poverty in the Omaha metropolitan area. Funding is intended to address basic needs of those struggling with poverty, empower adults to become more self-sufficient, and help at-risk youth through educational opportunities.

Greater priority is given to organizations that have outcome measures in place and that can adequately show the impact of their direct service program within the grant application.

The Foundation expects applicants to have an understanding of other organizations working in the same issues and articulate how they work together when applicable.

Requests must address issues within the following three focus areas and priority funding categories:

Basic Needs
- Affordable Housing
- Community Health
- Food
- Emergency Shelter
- Homelessness Prevention

Adult Self-Sufficiency:
- Domestic Violence
- Financial Education
- Literacy and Language
- Parenting Classes
- Workforce Development

At-Risk Youth:
- Abuse and Neglect
- College and Career Prep
- Mentoring
- Out-of-School Programs
- Teen Parenting

In order to apply, organizations are required to have a tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) and be in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service.

Organizations must address one of the focus areas of the foundation.

The following will not be considered for a grant:
- Organizations currently not measuring and tracking program outcomes
- Endowment funds
- Projects of religious denominations or sects, other than eligible educational, health or human service related projects
- Support of individuals including education, research or product development
- Travel for individuals or groups
- Event sponsorships, tickets/tables (Find out more about corporate sponsorships of fundraising events)
- Team sponsorships or athletic scholarships
- Political actions, candidates or lobbying efforts
- Groups, organizations or programs whose principal funding comes from federal, state or local taxes, except for certain activities of the state university system
- Requests for civic or commemorative advertising
- Social clubs, labor or fraternal organizations
- Festival participation
- The creation or maintenance of monuments or memorials
- Applications for programs or organizations outside the Omaha/Council Bluffs metro area

The Foundation is currently not accepting new capital campaign requests.

Applications are accepted two times per year:

For review in Spring: Applications accepted January 1 – February 15

For review in Fall: Applications accepted July 1 – August 15
