Grants of up to $5,000 to Northern Chautauqua County, New York nonprofit organizations to address critical and immediate needs within the local community. Letters of Interest must be received by September 1. Priority will be given to proposals that meet the following criteria:
- Potential impact of the request, including the number of people who will benefit;
- “Seed grants" that initiate promising new programs in the NCCF’s current areas of interest;
- Programs that are innovative and efficient in serving community needs and in meeting new opportunities;
- “Challenge gifts" or grants that encourage matching gifts or additional funding from other sources;
- Projects that provide support not currently provided by existing services;
- Organizations that work cooperatively with other community agencies, encourage more efficient use of community resources, and strive to eliminate the duplication of services;
- Projects that promote volunteer participation and citizen involvement in the community.
- Projects that provide support not currently provided by existing services.
Special projects that are sponsored by educational or religious institutions will be considered only if they benefit the community as a whole.

Except in unusual circumstances, the largest grant will be $5,000. It is anticipated that the majority of grants will be in smaller amounts.
Except in unusual circumstances, grants are approved for one year at a time.
Except in unusual circumstances, grants will be made only to organizations recognized by the IRS as 501 (c)(3).
NCCF funds are generally not granted to supplant tax funds for projects that would ordinarily receive public funding support.
Areas generally not funded include:
- Capital campaigns to establish or add to endowment funds
- General operating budgets for existing organizations
- The publication of books
- Conference fees
- Annual fund raising campaigns
Note: Consideration may be given to requests for capital campaigns or major equipment purchases, but are a low priority and in no event will the NCCF fund more than 20% of the total amount required.
The first step in applying for a grant from the Community Grants Program is to submit a “Letter of Interest" at the NCCF office by the deadline.
Letters of Interest Deadlines: March 1 & September 1 of each year (Letters of Interest must be received at the NCCF office by 4:00 p.m.)
Letters of Interest must include the following:
- Contact information, including an email address and a mailing address
- The specific amount of funding requested
- A brief project description
- The anticipated impact, including the potential number of people to benefit (if applicable)
Letters should be no longer than two pages in length.
Please Note: After submitting your “Letter of Interest” you will be sent an email confirming receipt of your application. If you do not receive a confirmation email after submitting your letter, please notify the Foundation's office (see below for contact information).
If the Grants Committee is interested in considering your application further, you will be invited to submit a full proposal, which is due on March 22 for Spring awards and September 20 for fall awards.
Spring awards are typically announced in early May. Fall awards are typically announced in early November.
