Estimated Size of Grant:

The 2017 maximum grant payable (before income testing) is $1,059 if you live within Whitehorse city limits, and $1,143 if you live outside Whitehorse city limits.

As the PUG is based on income, marital status and residential address, everyone’s grant amount will be different.

Individual seniors with an income below $40,000 and couples with a joint income below $56,000 will receive the maximum PUG.

Seniors in the middle income range will receive a partial PUG.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for this home heating grant in 2017, you must:
-Be at least 65 years old this year;
-Have received this grant in 2016 or have resided in Yukon for the last 12 months; and
-Have resided in Yukon for at least 6 months this year (3 of which must be in winter: Jan., Feb., Mar., Oct., Nov., Dec.)

Individual seniors with an income above $117,000 and couples with incomes of more than $165,000 will no longer be eligible for the PUG.

Pre-Application Information:

If you are just turning 65 or have never received the grant, or if you want to report a change in address, please call the PUG helpline.

The application requires a copy of your Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment to determine your income. Seniors with low income will receive the full grant, while those with higher income will receive less or may not be eligible (see graph).
