Grants of up to $50,000 to Colorado nonprofit childcare centers and preschools for facility improvements. Funding is intended to provide quality indoor and outdoor physical environments for children, families, and staff. Grant categories include: health and safety, small projects, medium projects, large projects, and capital campaigns. Funds are for permanent physical improvements to the facility. Funds can also be used for capital campaigns, which include opening a new center.

- Health and Safety: Funds available to address health, safety, and licensing issues that can be addressed through physical improvements to the applicant's facility. Applicants must rent or own their facility.
- Small Projects: Applicants must rent or own their facility.
- Medium Projects: Commitment to apply for or maintain a Level 3-5 rating under Colorado Shines, within one year after completion of project. Applicants must own their facility or demonstrate a long-term lease.
- Large Projects: Commitment to apply for or maintain a Level 3-5 rating under Colorado Shines, within one year after completion of project. There is limited availability, and applicants must own their facility or demonstrate a long-term lease.
- Capital Campaign: Commitment to apply for or maintain a Level 3-5 rating under Colorado Shines, within one year after completion of project. There is limited availability, and applicants must own their facility or demonstrate a long-term lease.

Capital Improvement Grant funding priorities include geographic dispersion statewide, addressing unmet service gaps (especially in infant and toddler care), and increasing access to quality programs.

Estimated Size of Grant:

- Health & Safety Grants are up to $2,000.
- Small Projects are up to $5,000.
- Medium Projects are up to $25,000.
- Large Projects are up to $50,000.
- Capital Campaign are up to $50,000.

Term of Contract:

- Health and Safety Grants: Funds must be spent within six months
- Small Projects Grants: Funds must be spent within six months
- Medium Projects Grants: Funds must be spent within twelve months

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility Criteria:

- This grant is for Colorado-based 501(c)(3) organizations that serve children younger than age five and are in need of permanent facility improvements.
- Must be a nonprofit corporation in good standing with the State of Colorado. School district programs must demonstrate district support.
- Must have a current license in good standing with the Office of Early Childhood, Division of Early Care and Learning as a child care center or preschool.

No moveable equipment, supplies, consumables, toys, or retirement of debt, and programs that receive more than $25,000 are not eligible for Capital Improvement Grant funding for three years.

Pre-Application Information:

Applicants must show evidence of matching dollars or other sources of funding for the project:

- Health and Safety Grants: This grant provides $4 for every $1 the applicant has.
- Small Projects Grants: This grant provides $1 for every $1 the applicant has.
- Medium Projects Grants: This grant provides $1 for every $2 the applicant has.
- Large Projects Grants: This grant provides $1 for every $4 the applicant has.
- Capital Campaign Grants: Applicants must show minimum 25% of total project cost at time of application.

Healthy Child Care Colorado can hold funds for 12 months after award for capital campaigns.

The Foundation encourages applicants to review the requirements for each grant and find the one or more that best meets their need.
