Grant Description
Grants to Colorado nonprofit organizations, local governments, IHEs, and law enforcement agencies to provide training programs for peace officers. Grant recipients may use funds to participate in or conduct training. Preference will be shown to small and rural agencies. Funding may also be used for equipment, supplies, tuition, travel, instructor fees, and other related expenses.
  • Regional Grant Program: This program was implemented to supplement law enforcement agency training budgets. Ten (10) training regions have been established throughout the state that are responsible for applying for funds on behalf of the law enforcement agencies within their geographical location. Eligible applicants must be a local government, college, university, or not-for-profit entity for the purpose of funding peace officer training programs to law enforcement agencies throughout the state. Agencies may contact their regional training grant coordinator if interested in receiving a training scholarship or hosting a training course. Program delivery and grant administrative funds are also available.
  • In-Service Grant Program: This program was implemented to assist agency budgets due to In-Service training requirements. Eligible applicants are law enforcement agencies. Eligible use of funds includes: training, training equipment, training supplies, backfill and travel costs for both student and instructor.

Regional and In-Service Grant: Funds are available to acquire training, conduct training, and attend training for Colorado peace officers who are currently employed by a law enforcement agency. Examples of allowable costs include tuition, lodging, travel costs, instructor fees, class supplies, travel costs, backfill, and overtime. In- or out-of-state travel is permissible using POST funds. Training equipment is also an allowable expense. Examples of allowable equipment costs include: Simulators, Simunitions, training ammunition, targets, arrest control training gear, driver training equipment, range and driving track improvements, etc.

Regional Grant Program: Ten (10) training regions have been established throughout the state that are responsible for applying for funds on behalf of the law enforcement agencies within their geographical location. Eligible applicants must be a local government, college, university, or not-for-profit for the purpose of funding peace officer training programs to law enforcement agencies throughout the state.

In-Service Grant Program: Eligible applicants are law enforcement agencies. Funds may only be utilized by employed, certified Colorado peace officers.

Pre-Application Information
The application period for both programs will be open March 1, 2023 through March 31, 2023.

To be considered for funding, training region applicants and agency applicants must submit an application via the POST grant management database.

Regional Grant Program: Ten (10) training regions have been established throughout the state that are responsible for applying for funds on behalf of the law enforcement agencies within their geographical location.

State agencies may not apply directly to POST but may apply for funds through their training region. (Please see Contact Information below for a list of training regions and contacts.)

The final award occurs during the June POST Board meeting.

Term of Contract
- The Regional Grant Program year begins July 1st and ends June 30th.
- The In-Service grant program year begins July 1st and ends March 31st.

The program year (the starting and ending date of the POST grant) is July 1st through June 30th. All grant agreements/contracts for grant funds will begin on their Effective Date (the date the agreement/contract is signed by the State Controller delegate) and terminate June 30th. All funds must be encumbered and liquidated prior to June 30th. Funds may not be rolled over or used past June 30th.
