Grants of up to $1,000 to Rhode Island third- and fourth-grade public school teachers for projects that will enhance student learning. Funding may be requested for one-time expenses, such as field trip expenses, classroom materials, equipment, software licenses, and other resources.

Teachers must make a compelling case about how their proposed project will advance student learning in the classroom and integrates into existing or future units of study.

Please note:
-Multiple applications from one teacher are not permitted; please submit your best idea.
-Teachers must apply individually; collaborative or team applications will not be accepted.
-Previous Spark Grant recipients are required to submit a one page report on their project prior to applying for the 2018-2019 school year.

Estimated Size of Grant:

The maximum award for any one project will not exceed $1,000.

Term of Contract:

Funds must be expended by the end of the 2018-2019 school year.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants are available to full-time teachers of third and fourth-grade students in Rhode Island public schools.

Teachers of special subjects like visual arts, music, or physical education are also eligible to apply so long as the proposed project is designed to be used with a cohort of third-grade and/or fourth-grade students.

Spark Grants may not be used to purchase technological equipment such as computers, tablets, or projectors.

Supplies alone are not eligible, unless the teacher makes a compelling case for how the supplies would engage and stimulate their students in a new and unique way.

Spark Grants are for one-time expenses and cannot provide ongoing funding to sustain projects.

The deadline to apply for a Carter Spark Grant is October 12, 2018.
