Projects must occur within the defined grant period of April 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018.

To be eligible for a grant from the Beckley Area Foundation, applicants must be either a nonprofit organization tax-exempt under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code or a public institution, school, or municipality.

Additionally, programs funded through BAF’s annual community grant process must be located in Raleigh County. While the proposed program itself must serve Raleigh County, the applicant organization is not required to be headquartered in Raleigh County.

Not eligible:

Generally grants are not made for the following purposes: multi-year commitments, annual campaigns, endowments, sectarian religious programs, political purposes or lobbying, ongoing operating expenses, and expenses outside the grant period (April 1 - March 31).

BAF does not accept requests on behalf of individuals or groups that do not have official recognition as a nonprofit charitable entity or public institution.

Applicants are encouraged to contact the BAF staff prior to beginning the application process. During the review process, BAF staff or distribution committee members may contact applicants for supplemental information.

Favorable consideration is given to requests that show additional sources of project funding. Late applications as well as faxed or emailed applications will not be accepted.

A distribution committee reviews all proposals and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors, who make the final decisions on all applications at its winter (February/March) meeting. Applicants will be notified as soon as possible about decisions regarding each grant request.
