Grants to Maryland arts and cultural nonprofit organizations to support ongoing arts activities in eligible locations. Funding is intended for applicants that produce and/or present public arts programming. The purpose of funding is to enhance arts and cultural offerings in Anne Arundel County.

The Community Arts Grant (CAG) program provides general operating fund awards to support local nonprofit cultural and arts organizations, in order to:

  • Foster excellence, diversity, and vitality in arts offerings for all Anne Arundel County residents, regardless of age, geographic location, race, ethnicity, country of origin, or other characteristic;
  • Broaden opportunities for county audiences, artists, and arts organizations;
  • Increase the availability of arts activities and programs for all county residents; and
  • Promote countywide awareness of arts resources and opportunities

A Founding Grant is a one-time award for new nonprofit organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) status that have not previously received funding from the Arts Council.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Founding Grants are Community Arts Grants to new nonprofit cultural/arts organizations that not received prior grant funding from the Arts Council.

In order to be eligible, all organizations must:
• Produce or present the arts to the public through ongoing arts programming.
• Have U.S. Internal Revenue Service 501(c) ( 3 ) tax-exempt status at the time of application.
• Be incorporated in Anne Arundel County as a nonprofit or have significant physical presence in Anne Arundel County.
• Establish that the majority of the arts activities it produces and/or presents take place in Anne Arundel County and that most annual expenditures of the organization and its art programming are devoted to activities that occur within the county.
• Be governed by a legally - liable board of directors acting under a mission statement and budget specific to the organization.
• Be able to document current Good Standing Status with the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation at the time of application.
• Public, private, and charter K - 12 schools, and preschools are not eligible to apply.

Grant funding may not be applied to capital improvements, purchase of land or real property, tuition assistance, fundraising or pre-existing expenses, debts or obligations incurred by the organization.

Pre-Application Information:

1) Grant application cycle opens April 1, 2021.
2) Grant application period closes April 30, 2021 at midnight. Applications must be completed online through the ACAAC GO Grants portal.
3) Arts Council award letters , including a request for electronic banking information, will be sent to recipients on or before June 15, 2021.
4) The first grant payment (50%) will be made by ACH transfer on or before October 1, 2021.
5) Interim reports are due by February 28, 2022.
6) The second grant award payment (50%) will be made by ACH transfer on or before March 15, 2022, contingent upon receipt of the interim report.
7) Final reports are due by August 31, 2022
