Grants totaling $18,000 to USA and Canada optometric institutions for the professional development and training of early-career faculty members. This program is designed to aid recently appointed faculty in advancing their teaching skills in the areas of improving delivery of information to students, new methodologies, increasing the use of new technology in all teaching settings, and the promotion of online learning tools.

Priority will be given to innovative and creative projects. Applications for consideration should be for a broad range of faculty development activities in the setting of optometric education; including classroom, laboratory, clinical, and external activities. Applications must outline the need for the funding, the criteria for success, and a detailed budget.

Up to 3

Any faculty member at a North-American optometric institution with less than 10 years experience as a faculty member may submit one application for funding.

Grant funding will be issued to the institution/school/college.

Individuals who have held appointments at more than one institution are eligible and the calculation is based on total years rather than time at current appointment. Any faculty more than 10 years beyond completion of their formal training, who feels they qualify because of extenuating circumstances (military leave, maternity, teaching sabbatical, medical reason), should make a clear case for inclusion to apply in a statement on their cover page.

Adjunct or auxiliary faculty members may apply but the application must be accompanied by a letter from the President/Dean/Director confirming appointment and affiliation.

Requests for equipment or exceptional travel needs will not be considered.

The deadline for application is July 1, 2017 (submission by e-mail).

Applications will receive a confirmation receipt by e-mail from the AOF within three business days of submission. If a confirmation is not received, the applicant is advised to contact the AOF office to ensure the application is on file.

Applications will be reviewed by an ad-hoc committee established by the AOF.
