Grant to a USA, Canada or International graduate student for a direct intervention project that aims to reduce the mortality rate of children under the age of five. Applicants must submit a brief project description by June 27, 2017. Project proposals may include, but are not limited to, intervention solutions in healthcare services, technology, education, infrastructure, and agriculture.
Projects are evaluated on their:

- Ability to impact rates within a child mortality indicator (U5MR, IMR, NMR, etc.),
- Effectiveness, innovation, and scalability of the intervention approach within global health,
- Feasibility of the proposed lives-saved estimate,
- Probability of success,
- Ease of verification, and
- Inclusion of a process impact assessment.

The 2017 graduate student winner will receive $100,000 in funding to execute their proposed project plan.

The Prize does not require a specific timeline, but the intention is to directly spend the money to save children’s lives as immediately as possible. A year or two seems reasonable to achieve this goal in most cases.

The Children’s Prize contest (aka “the Prize”) is open to all individuals who are currently enrolled graduate students in a formal accredited academic institution, worldwide.

Please note that the prize funds may only be used for charitable purposes, as specified in the contest goals.
